Located way above the Arctic Circle deep in north Norway's most prolific sea fishing waters. Lyngen is a sheltered fjord with fast access to the rich open seas and features. Excellent fishing for cod, halibut, coalfish, haddock and plaice all within a short distance of the harbour. Highly productive big fish waters can easily be reached about an hour from the fjord.
Boats are fitted with the latest (Gofish) safety equipment. This also makes it easy to accommodate the new Norwegian Government fish reporting system.
Formerly Lyngen Fishing Centre, Xlyngen offers high standards of fishing and accommodation. Accommodation is in the Fisherman's cottages which are built on stilts over the water and are comfortable, modern and furnished to a high standard. There are 5 cabins and 2 apartments (newly refurbished in 2018) each catering for up to 6 persons. The accommodation comprises: porch, 3 bedrooms each with two beds, bathroom with toilet and shower, living room and kitchen with fridge, dishwasher, cooker and oven. Accommodation comprises: one bedroom on the ground floor with 2 beds and the first floor has two bedrooms, each with two beds and a small storage closet. Each cottage has a separate shed, complete with freezer box. They also have satellite TV and towels and linen is included.
Your hosts at Xlyngen Havfiske will offer advice on what and where to catch and they keep a yearly 'big fish' log.
Boats are 3 x 19ft kvernø (2 x 70 hp and 1 x 50 hp) and 7 x 22ft kvernø with 115hp engine. All boats have gps and echosounder on board. It is also possible to rent black box for fish, bucket and a brush. These are all good seaworthy boats, centre console that offer spacious fishing platforms.
Please note clients are required to sign a boat contract on arrival. Boat insurance is included but there is an excess of 10,000 NOK on the boat insurance policy. The client must pay for all damages to the boat below 10,000 NOK at the time.
At least one person in the group must have boat operation experience. If born after 1/1/1980 and operating a boat of 25hp and above he/she will be requested to supply an ICC, International Certificate of Competence. This must include coastal navigation to be valid in Norway.
There is also good shore fishing available. There is an excellent fish gutting and cleaning facility on site. Guided fishing is also an option.
Getting to Xlyngen; private road transfers (extra charge) or self-drive car hire are your options or take the fast ferry from Tromso to Lyngen in around an hour. Lyngen is located 90km from Tromso. A fast ferry connects Tromso with Lyngen on selected days at specific times.
