Some accommodations also sell license/permits. We supply you with a list of tackle shops where it is easy to buy your fishing license and permits, plus bait and tackle as required.

Species

Holland provides the perfect fishing holiday with an abundance of species. You are spoilt for choice... Bream, Hybrids, Roach, Rudd, Perch, Pike, Zander, Ide, Tench and Carp are to be found in most waters. The Ijssel has barbel too.

For fish to feed confidently and close, a bit of colour in the water is critical. Fishing Holland during the summer has this in abundance, that's why you can catch on feeder, waggler or pole, even in bright, warm weather making Holland one of the best fishing holiday destinations.

The waters systems are generally linked and water is pumped right through the system, adding colour and food. (Most of Holland is below sea level).

Baits

Caster, white maggots (coloured maggots and dyed ground-baits are banned on some waters as they taint the flesh of eels -- a valuable commercial product), worm and sweetcorn are good hook baits.

Boiled wheat is an exceptionally good and cheap particle feed. Add it to your brown crumb or loose feed as if it were casters. Travels well is easy to prepare and it's so cheap. Use it in plentiful proportions, it costs very little.

Wheat Preparation -- Put a few double handfuls into a "cooler box", add hot water so it's covered by a few inches then put on the lid and leave overnight. By morning it's perfection. Use the surplus water for mixing with your brown crumb. Note that wheat will triple in size this way.

Note; Some waters have a ban on red worms until late May due to a close season for Pike, Zander and Eels.

License/permits: You will need to buy a one year license fror the whole of Holland. You will also require a permit (these are regional). Both can be purchased from all major tackle shops in Holland. Do NOT fish without a licence and relevent permit.

Travel

P&O ferries.

Cruise ferry sailings with P&O Ferries from Hull to Rotterdam. They sail out at 2100 hours (check in is 2 hours minimum but you can board at around 1700 hours), arrive Rotterdam Europort at 0800 hours. The Hull - Zeebrugge route is a good option if this route is full (no vans). Onboard cabins are comfortable and include air conditioning, shower and toilet. 2/3/4 berth cabins and suites are available. Outside cabins carry a small supplement. There are two restaurants, a café, choice of bars, cinema, shops and casino. Lots to keep you busy on this comfortable overnight crossing. No supplement for vehicles up to 2.4 metres high. Excellent value on board meal package.. £46 pp return for dinner and breakfast if pre booked. NOTE 2011.. VANS MUST BE DECLARED AT TIME OF BOOKING. Suppliment applies. Stena Line

Harwich to the Hook with Stena Line. Daily/nightly sailings provide high standards of comfort and great on board facilities. You get a cabin and a good nights sleep on the overnight sailings.
