On Board Troms Explorer
In the High Summer a group of eight anglers (regular visitors to North Norway) enjoyed a fantastic expedition week on Troms Explorer staying at Lauksletta House on the island of Arnøy.
The group caught and released on one night alone over a TON of big cod. Fish averaged 15 to 30 pounds and the biggest cod of the trip was a 42 pounder. 11 halibut were caught in the week, the biggest weighing 66 pounds. In addition double figure wolf fish were landed plus big haddock and coalies.
The weather was perfect with temperatures in the 20's under the midnight sun with the sea like glass. This group had the best weather which resulted in fantastic fishing. The best fishing is on the outer islands between Loppa and Fugloy on the front of Arnoy, get the weather right (it needs to be reasonably calm) and the fishing is the best in the world. If it blows you can fish more sheltered waters in the inner fjords on the east side of Arnoy. Cod to 50 pounds have been caught here and there is always the chance of halibut wolf fish and coalfish. The best fishing is without doubt out on the "front".
Pete Masters fishing with John Founds and Lloyd Roberts of Anglers World had great sport with cod in the teens and twenties most days. Wolf fish were common throughout their week but the highlight was a personal best cod for Pete. It broke the scales (50lb max reading) and was estimated well over 50 pounds and possibly approaching 60lb. They were fishing in the middle of the Kvaenangen Fjord.
