Monster Cod Fishing - Lauklines Kystferie Fishing Centre.

Dave Lewis and Martin Founds joined local fishing expert Marcus aboard the superb catamaran MV Havcruise skippered by Captain Cato who has immense knowledge of this super rich area. Enjoy fantastic days fishing on an huge offshore mark, targeting monster Barents Sea cod. It was impossible to count the number of 20/30 pound cod, but we did remember the dozen or so 40 pounders the six or more 50 pounders the two 60 pounders and the biggest of 72 pounds!!! our best cod day ever!!! Dave used a 20/30lb class Shimano travel rod, a Torium reel loaded with 40lb braid and a 20 foot 50lb mono leader. Norway chrome pirks (400gram) worked great with 10/0 trebles.

Fishing in late April has got off to a fantastic start. Perfect weather conditions produced big numbers of 30-40lb cod to Paul Coles on his 7th trip. This one weas his best ever. Using 300 gram Baltic Wiggler lures he also had a huge halibut to the surface only to break him at the side of the boat. It was estimated at over 200 pounds!

Location

Lauklines is situated by the waters edge in Kattfjord on the island of Kvaloya (Whale Island), amid picturesque coastal and mountain scenery and only 35km from Tromsø. Ideal for fast and easy transfers. Guests can take advantage of private transfers or use a self drive car hire. Easy drive on quiet scenic roads.

Accommodation

There are 6 traditionally built luxury insulated cabins located beside the sea. Each cabin will sleep up to 6 persons in 3 bedrooms. On the ground floor there is a fully equipped kitchen, lounge, bathroom with shower, toilet and a single bedroom. Upstairs are 2 large bedrooms (triple and twin), bathroom/shower and toilet. The cabins have satellite TV, dishwasher, electric cooker and fridge. There are freezer facilites and a washing machine is available for guests' use. Outdoor storage for tackle, clothes etc. There is a sauna on site (pay locally).  All cottages are furnished to a high standard and are located right beside the water just a short walk to the boat dock.

Boats

The new Oien 18ft boats with 40hp outboards are located in the nearby boat dock. When you collect the boat you will be given safety instructions and a sea map for the area. All boats have Lowrance GPS/Chartplotter with echo sounder. Two excellent charter boats, experienced and enthusiastic skippers, Offshore 105 (Summer) and  Catamaran the MV Havcruise (March/April).

The Fishing in Lauklines

This is an excellent area for cod, halibut, coalfish etc. Charter boat fishing with a local guide is available (selected dates). Especially recommended is guided spring fishing in April when the really big migrating cod and large halibut are around. It is possible to book these trips for shorter durations with 4 nights accommodation and 3 days guided fishing. It is possible to hire rods and reels and there is a well equipped tackle shop on site. Cod in excess of 70 pounds are caught here throughout the seaon. Huge halibut, haddock, coalfish and wolf fish. Excellent fishing for place (redspot) with fish to 8 pounds. Marcus is an excellent guide and runs the tackle shop on site.

Good shore fishing location too.

Marcus can arrange special ice fishing trips with cod to 43 pounds being landed!.

Excellent sea trout, salmon and brown trout/char fishing too with expert fly fishing guide.

A top class all round fishing centre ideal for serious anglers and family anglers too with a wide choice of outdoor activities.

Shops & Facilities

The nearest shop is 18km away and Lauklines have a car available for hire for shopping trips (approx. £30 for 3 hours) or taxis can be booked (approx. £60). There are no restaurants or bars at Lauklines but meals can be organised for small groups (pay locally).

It is possible to buy and hire fishing tackle from the well stocked shop. Life jackets are supplied but guests can hire full floatation suits too.

We will be operating 4 nights/3 days skippered fishing trips from this superb centre just 40 minutes drive from Tromso Airport. Transfers will be included.  Flights with SAS from Heathrow, Manchester, Aberdeen and Edinburgh.

Trips will depart 4th and 8th April and is selling out fast.

Fishing will be aboard the superbly equipped MV Havfiske a state of the art aluminium catamaran with a highly experienced crew. We will fish the offshore reef where the huge Barents Sea cod arrive to spawn. Cod over 100 pounds have been taken by commercial fishermen and 20 to 50 pound cod are common, but you do have to wade through a lot of fish to get into the 60/70 pound plus cod. We fished 60 to 80 metre marks with 20 metres of cod !!. A hugely prolific big fish reef. There is always the chance of big halibut too.

It should be stated that this is an offshore mark and is weather dependant. The MV Havfiske is an extremely stable craft but this package will suit the hardened sea angler. Whilst it is doubtful there will always be a chance of losing days to bad weather.

Tackle... 20/30lb Shimano travel rod. 40 braid. Torium or similar reel.  Dave prefers to tie direct to a 20 foot mono leader of 50lb. 400 gram pirks. Fishing tackle and floatation suits can be hired.
