Travel

Flights are to Tromsø, the capital of the Arctic. Transfers are either by coach, fast or cruise ferry or private transfers can be arranged to some centres. Roads are quiet and well signed so car rental is an option.

Located 70 degrees north and about 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle, this is one of the most scenic regions in Norway. Coastal temperatures are tempered by the Gulf Stream and in winter drop to around -2 to -10 degrees ºC. In summer with 24 hours of daylight, this is 'The Land of the Midnight Sun', it can reach into the late 20's ºC. Sun cream is essential. Wildlife includes lynx, wolverine, otter, golden and sea eagles, whales and dolphin. The Lyngen Mountains are simply stunning, usually snow capped and glaciers can be seen.

The fishing simply could not be better - it's the finest Norway has to offer - world class sea fishing. We have spent 7 years exploring this area and it is relatively untouched. Fantastic cod, big coalies and huge halibut, plus haddock, flatties, wolffish and redfish. We also offer salmon/trout/char fishing on the Reisa and Malselv Rivers. Excellent sea trout fishing from the shore or with optional boat hire at Sjorkhosen.

The Midnight Sun

In the north of Norway, where you are well inside the Arctic Circle, the sun never dips below the horizon from late May to the end of July. Three months of daylight 24 hours a day. Temperatures rise quickly and summers up here can be much warmer than the UK. The fishing in these northerly latitudes is often better in the daylight night. Plankton rises to the surface attracting vast balls of baitfish and the bigger predators follow. Any breeze usually dies away at night and the midnight sun offers a unique fishing experience. You really can cram the fishing hours in during this time.

Scenery And Wildlife

Norway has some of the most stunning scenery in Europe, excellent light values and abundant wildlife. You may see moose, reindeer herds roaming in the north, fish eagles, golden eagles and sea otter. Dolphins and whales can come close to your boat on occasions. Orcas (killer whales) have been sighted close to the harbour at Skjervøy during late summer. If you have an interest in photography, this is the perfect destination.
