The drop-off here is staggering. Fishing starts after only twenty minutes already in 1,000 feet of water and the boat reaches the 3,000 feet contour only five miles from the dock. On a full-day charter even 6,000 feet is accessible being less than 10 miles from land.
A dream come true for sports fishermen and ladies where virtually the whole eight-hour day is spent with lures in the water rather than steaming out to distant marks.
Even so trips can go as far as thirty miles out to find the big BLUE MARLIN and YELLOWFIN TUNA. Big blues up to 1,000LBS have been caught, all of them released, while the tuna run to 200LBS and can take two hours to defeat on 50LB or 80LB tackle.
A good variety of billfish is rounded off by WHITE MARLIN and SAILFISH.
Peak Season
All these major specimens peak in Grenada waters in the period from January to end April.
Throughout the whole season from October to June some billfish are still possible complimented at all times by DORADO and WAHOO.
Sport Fishing Boat “Wayward Wind”
Wayward Wind is owned and run by experienced big-game skipper, Stewart Smalley and is a Bertram 31, one of the most famous fish-catching boats in the World. She is maintained in top condition and carries all the necessary fishing and safety equipment.
Light Tackle Fishing
If a break is needed from fighting the big ones, light tackle and bottom fishing from a small boat can be arranged. Spinning and bait fishing is possible from the rocks and in the dock.
Accommodation
Capt. Stewart and wife Ellen have two self-catering apartments adjacent to their home called “INSIDE OUT”. An extremely attractively priced package of fishing and accommodation is available on request.
For groups of blokes who want to be nearer the town of St. George’s, the Tropicana Hotel has a restaurant and bar, and is just across the road from the Grenada Yacht Club where Wayward Wind is berthed.
