Mick Gee and Paul Cosby has just returned from yet another recce trip to the region of Extremadura, catching really well, weather faultless, cool mornings but hotted up fast as the sun rose, not a cloud in the sky (late October).!! The trip was a special fully guided trip with top angler and guide Alan Hughes who has fished the area extensively for many years.

Carp to 28 pounds (we were mainly targeting a mixed coarse species), tench to 8 pounds (a 15 pounder was caught the previous week), massive numbers of crucian carp to 6 pounds, along with barbel. Carp in excess of 50 pounds, huge barbel and pike are caught each season. Our trips are more about catching well, lots of action and variety and there is always the chance of a monster too.

This area is noted for prolific and variable species plus some really enormous barbel, carp and pike.

Trip facts:

Fly in Madrid and be met by your host. Low cost airlines operate on these routes so baggage charges and extras soon add up on top of a "low" airfare. With tackle and bait provided you do not need to take lots of luggage. You may hire a car but we prefer the guided trips with airport collection to include all transfers. Our guide supplied all tackle (bring your own end gear or personal tackle if you wish) and all bait.

Accommodation: A number of options but my favourite is the Hotel Plaza at Tallarrubias where breakfast is included. Our guide Alan provides lunch and evening dinner on the bank whilst you fish - you lose no fishing time at all. Clients seeking a more upmarket dinner can be dropped off back at the hotel and guests then choose where and what to eat, this will be at guests own expense.

The Hotel Plaza has twin and single bedrooms ensuite. Prices are based on twin sharing with a supplement for single occupancy. Excellent English is spoken at the hotel, there are no language problems.

New for 2012/13.. Self catering villa ideal for groups of 4. Meals can be arranged.

Package options: The norm is a 7 night trip but longer or shorter trips can be arranged.

Prime time is mid September to mid December and mid February to May. Summers can be very hot.

Fishing Styles... Trips to this superbly scenic area is about catching, lots of action and a variety of species and size... We have two simple set-ups.. coarse gear where we fish for smaller carp, crucians, tench and barbel, mainly feeder fishing but waggler and pole will catch too. We have a second style too, carp gear (heavier tackle and bigger baits for those big barbel and carp). By fishing both styles at the same time you will experience plenty of action from quality coarse fish and have the chance of landing a specimen too.

Fishing licences are organised by the guide, Alan Hughes..

Fishing Tackle: Alan supplies quality gear, Shimano reels and quality rods. Rods supplied are Maver, Fox and Shimano. Nash chairs. All you need bring is end gear plus your own favoured tackle if you wish. Swims are pre baited. Bait included consists of boilies, pellets, maggots, worms and groundbait.

Alan is the main dealer of Nutra Baits in the region.
